We’re Addressing Systemic Racism at The Root

We're actively developing and implementing strategies to address the issues caused by systemic racism to embed racial equity into institutional systems. Simultaneously, we're pushing for policies and education that zero in on the immediate needs of Black communities, who face the brunt of racial discrimination.

  • Racial Disparities

Employers call back fifty percent more resumes with white-sounding names than those with African American names.

  • Racism-Induced Trauma

Racism-induced trauma is the psychological and emotional harm that individuals experience as a result of encountering racism or racial discrimination. This trauma manifests through psychological symptoms like anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem, emotional responses such as anger and sadness, and physical symptoms including insomnia and headaches, all stemming from the chronic stress of facing racism

  • Colonized History

The American Society of News Editors reports that people of color comprise only seventeen percent of newsroom staff.

  • Healthcare Disparities

In emergency responses, minority communities often receive slower and less effective aid, as seen in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

  • Economic Disparities

The Brookings Institution reports that the net worth of a typical white family is nearly ten times greater than that of a Black family.

  • Unconscious Bias

Life altering educational and professional decisions that impact lives are heavily influenced by personal biases.

Think of us as advocates for change that help individuals, families, and communities heal from racism induced trauma to establishing racial equity in educational institutions, the workplace, and society as a whole. We’re driving change in the classroom to the corridors of city halls to the steps of the Supreme Court. Through education and advocacy, we're fighting to secure civil rights for every single person. It's about understanding the deep-seated issues caused by systemic racism and tackling them head-on. This is how we pave the way to a world free from oppression.”
